May Newsletter
The other day, I walked into a jazz venue closer to D.C. and someone in the band recognized me. They said, "That's John Kocur. He's with the Loudoun Jazz Society. They are really hot out there. There is quite a scene happening." Whoa! Eighth years ago, when we started this organization, I don't think anybody would have said that about Loudoun County.
If you scroll down this newsletter, you will see evidence of that scene. We have new venues hosting jazz regularly. Bourbon Boulevard opened a new location in Dulles Town Center (where the P.F. Chang's used to be) and is presenting jazz Wednesday through Sunday. Fans of the big band nights at Trungo's can rejoice. Loudoun Jazz Ensemble is returning to the location which has been renamed Leesburg Junction. Just down the road, Darden Purcell is hosting some great jazz acts at Reston Town Square Park on Fridays for free.
Special one-time events include Swedish jazz star Gunhild Carling with the Loudoun Symphonic Winds, the Eric Byrd Trio at the Barns of Rose Hill, and our next Swing Dance with Swing Shift. If you missed the last swing dance, you definitely want to come to this one. It was a blast!
As always, thanks to every officer, volunteer, member, and fan that makes this jazz scene possible. You are the Loudoun Jazz Society.
Regards,
John Kocur
President, Loudoun Jazz Society
