June Newsletter
We received word from The Dell that they will be closing this month. If you are like me, this may come with some sadness. Since 2021, hundreds of you came out to make music, listen, and connect through jazz there. I want to personally thank all our officers, volunteers, and musicians for making these Loudoun Jazz Jams a success. Special thanks to Josh Endo (Key Studios) for raising the level of our audio and using the jams as a mentoring tool for young adults.
Some of you will remember that our earliest jams were at Trungo's in Leesburg back in 2018. As we were emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, we needed a large, open-air space that could host our jams. Chefscape (later renamed The Dell) stepped up. A lively jazz scene grew which led to many fruitful partnerships and spin-off events. We will miss it!
If you enjoyed attending the Loudoun Jazz Jam at The Dell, I encourage you to make a new habit of attending the 3rd Wednesday jam session at The Branch. You will see familiar faces and hear more great jazz.
There are still lots of ways for you to participate in jazz in Loudoun County this month. Dance to the sounds of Swing Shift at the Douglass Center this Friday. Experience international sensation, Gunhild Carling with the Loudoun Symphonic Winds next Saturday. Apply for our LJS scholarship or contribute to the fund. Applications are due Sunday, June 7th. There is still jazz in Loudoun!
Regards,
John Kocur
