Why do we need jazz? After a few tough weeks, I had the opportunity to attend a special jazz concert here in Loudoun. Bands from New York and New Orleans traveled to play for a large enthusiastic audience with plenty of space for dancing. And dance we did! The sound of great blues trumpet-playing brought tears to my eyes, healing with its bittersweet balm. The vibrations of the dance floor pulled in my family and me like a magnet. Dancing under the stars with my daughters to great jazz, I could not help but think about the millions of people over more than a century that have felt the power of this music and longed to live in its warmth.

You can experience the power of great jazz at our next Battle of the Big Bands. The Loudoun Jazz Ensemble, Swing Shift, Franklin Park Big Band, and JazzWorx will join forces at Craftworx on October 11th for a friendly musical showdown. Watch some of the area's greatest jazz musicians rise to the challenge in this tradition of American individuality and group camaraderie. See the ticket link below to reserve your spot now.

Looking ahead, members new and old, can attend the Annual Members Meeting on November 12th. That is your chance to stay informed, meet others, and make your voice heard. Keep an eye out for an invitation in your email.

Regards,
John Kocur
President, Loudoun Jazz Society
