November Newsletter

Happy Election Day! Next Wednesday is another kind of election day. At the Annual Member Meeting, all official members have the opportunity to vote for the 2024 slate of officers. Additionally, if you attend, you will hear the latest news and be the first to receive the dates for some exciting 2024 events. Lastly, you will have the chance to give us feedback about the future direction of the LJS in our member survey.

In my other capacity as Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at George Mason University, I had the opportunity to perform with jazz legend Christian McBride last month. Christian inspired us all with his astounding musicianship, clever compositions, and charming personality. You may know that Christian McBride hosts a weekly NPR show called "Jazz Night in America" (heard 10pm Saturdays on WAMU 88.5 FM). Each week, the show features live jazz performances from some hip spot in the country with narration by Christian McBride.

In my time in Loudoun County, I have witnessed some truly remarkable moments of jazz in our midst that would have been worthy of wider listening. With our Old Ox Brewery series growing in 2024, in addition to our continuing jam sessions, library concerts, and open big band rehearsals, there will be many more great "Jazz Nights" in Loudoun this coming year. Thank you for your continued support in making Loudoun County a destination for jazz music.
