What makes a place a great place to live? This was the question I asked at our Annual Member meeting last week. I posited that your work in helping build a thriving jazz scene is part of what makes Loudoun County a great place to live. Here is a quick summary of the meeting if you missed it.
We voted in and welcomed two new officers to the organization for 2023; Lisa Fiorilli as Secretary and Caleb Nei as Treasurer. I am confident they will serve faithfully and help move us forward. We also congratulated Rob Maletick on his new position as Vice-President. I will remain as President for the next term. (Perhaps one of you reading this will serve as an officer in 2024).
We reflected on Bob Eland's and Wayland Coker's immense contributions to our organization as Treasurer and Vice-President. They have been with us since the beginning and have both left indelible marks on who we are. We also thanked Kate Sammons for her leadership in establishing our membership and providing invaluable guidance.
Attendees heard updates on our two biggest initiatives for 2023, the Loudoun Youth Jazz Orchestra and a Thelonious Monk tribute concert in partnership with the D.C. Federation of Musicians. You will see new information about auditions for LYJO below. Tell a young musician in your life about this great opportunity.
I left the meeting inspired about possibilities for jazz in Loudoun in the near future. We have a strong team and dedicated supporters. As we approach our fifth anniversary in February, we are building momentum and look forward to our best year yet.
