December Newsletter
Is there any other time of year when the general public listens to so much jazz? For whatever reason, jazz and Christmas go together in most people's minds. While we often think of old-time favorites in the holiday season, we have a few new things to rejoice about this year.
Check out the new release from local jazz singer Tracy Hamlin to add to your listening rotation. It features Quentin Walston on piano on a few tracks. You can also catch Quentin at Salamander Resort or the Brambleton Library most weekends this month. (By the way, Brambleton Library is now open until 9pm Fridays and looking for musicians to perform.)
The Eric Byrd Trio will return to Franklin Park Arts Center for their beloved Charlie Brown Christmas show. Let's help spread the word and pack the place.
There's still time to audition for the Loudoun Youth Jazz Orchestra. Let someone in your life know about this exciting new initiative to develop the jazz musicians of the next generation.
Of course, our Loudoun Jazz Jam at ChefScape will be a cozy, warm time as will the monthly big band sessions at Trungo's on Tuesdays.
Jazz fact of the month: In addition to Tracy Hamlin's new Christmas EP, fans of classic jazz might enjoy the new Louis Armstrong compilation, Louis Wishes You a Cool Yule. Smooth jazz fans might like Dave Koz's new Christmas record (his 8th Christmas record to date) entitled Christmas Ballads. You also might check out jazz vocalist Jane Monheit's new album, The Merriest.
On behalf of Loudoun Jazz Society, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with great music and good times.
