Why choose Loudoun County, VA as a place to launch a jazz society? In the second part of this three-part series, I propose that Loudoun County is the perfect place for a thriving jazz scene. Loudoun is the fastest-growing county in the nation and boasts the highest median income. We enjoy a plethora of wineries, breweries, and restaurants - but options for live music are limited. As of yet, the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra does not have a permanent home. In many cases, to experience live jazz in an intimate, sit-down venue, you have to travel. Although Washington, D.C., is home to a substantial community of professional jazz musicians, opportunities to see them, let alone jam with them, can be hard to come by.

Just as Loudoun County has become a destination for food, wine, and beer, we imagine Loudoun County as a destination for live music and jazz enthusiasts as well. We’ve already seen musicians traveling long distances to attend our “3rd Sunday” jam sessions at ChefScape and “2nd Tuesday” big band open rehearsals at Trungo’s.  Between our partnership with Loudoun Libraries and our new LJS Presents at Chefscape series, the jazz calendar is filling up. Our dreams for the future are great, and include eventually hosting musicians of national or international renown. Next month, I’ll share some thoughts on how you can be a part of making these dreams a reality.
