August Newsletter
If I have discovered anything in the last year, it is our need for in-person musical experiences. Sure, virtual concerts satisfied us - for a time. But what did we miss? We missed breathing the same air. We missed feeling the same vibrations. When musicians spontaneously create for a live audience, the separateness of our individual lives is temporarily overturned. Jazz brings us into a shared space both literally and figuratively, and these extraordinary moments are impossible to replicate. They can’t be bottled up, marketed, and sold to enjoy at a later date. You have to be there. And when it’s happenin’, we enter a state that might otherwise only be found in the temple or in nature.
As we gradually re-enter the world, I invite you to help us create these moments. Each musician contributes to the conversation. Every listener adds to the experience. I look forward to seeing you at our next jam session or local jazz event. Next month, I’ll share my thoughts on why Loudoun County, VA is fertile ground for a thriving jazz scene.
