You can enjoy two exciting jazz concerts in Loudoun County in September. The first is Alfred Yun's follow-up concert to his very successful Tribute to Thelonious Monk at the Douglass Community Center. The second is the next installment of the Loudoun Jazz All-Stars at Old Ox Brewery. This time we feature some of our favorite vocalists with accompaniment from Big Night.

Here is a note from Alfred Yun on his concert:

Hi everyone! We are back again with another tribute concert to Thelonious Monk sponsored by the Loudoun Jazz Society and the DC Federation of Musicians.

This time, we're going to change things up a bit, and draw from contemporary influences like hip hop, electronic music, and much more. Given that we are playing at the Douglass Community Center, I thought it was only appropriate to pay homage to multiple periods of Black Culture and History.

The Douglass Community Center repurposed the Douglass High School, which was the first Black high school until the end of segregation; and now it has turned into a community center that pays respect to Fredrick Douglass and Black History. You can also find a chapter of the NAACP in this building, so I believed it was very appropriate to pay respect to the genius of Thelonious Monk, a tremendously important Black pianist and composer.

Like our previous installment, this is a free event! Come and enjoy live jazz as we try to produce new sounds and emotions!

Save the date for our General Membership Meeting on Thursday, November 2nd where you can help plan the next year of jazz in Loudoun County.
