September Newsletter
As we approach Labor Day weekend, I'd like to draw your attention to a program of the Musician's Union. In addition to fighting for fair wages, labor conditions, and intellectual property rights for musicians, the American Federation of Musicians also sponsors community events throughout the country. The Musician's Trust Fund (read more) is the world's largest sponsor of live, admission-free programs. If you are a musician interested in applying for Musician's Trust Fund support, or you are a fan who would like to bring a specific jazz artist to Loudoun County, email loudounjazz@gmail.com with your ideas.
In other news, First Friday in Leesburg is particularly loaded with jazz this month. Check out the lineup at their website: leesburgfirstfriday.com
Just down the road, you can hear some of our area's great jazz acts for free at the Lake Anne Jazz Festival in Reston, VA on Saturday, September 3rd.
If you missed the jam session last month, you might have missed our most exciting jam yet. We enjoyed many guest musicians, the premiere of the band Big Night led by Matt Trimboli and Tony Gudell, and the synchronicity of the Young Brothers. If you haven't been to a jam in a while, we'd love to see you this month.
Lastly, please save the date for a General Membership meeting on Thursday, November 3rd from 7-9pm. All registered members of the Jazz Society are invited to attend this meeting for an update on initiatives, officer elections, a chance to voice your opinions, and some members-only jamming. Location TBA.
