Gunhild Carling & Loudoun Symphonic Winds

Swedish Jazz Star Gunhild Carling shares the stage with Loudoun Symphonic Winds. She plays multiple instruments, sings and tap dances. She performs all over the world, with over 50 million views in YouTube, Facebook and other platforms.

Gunhild Carling is Sweden’s queen of swing, jazz, and vaudeville — a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and entertainer who has captivated audiences on every continent. Born into the legendary Carling musical dynasty, she picked up her first instrument before she could walk and has never stopped playing. Today she commands the trombone, trumpet, banjo, piano, accordion, harmonica, bagpipes, and more — sometimes several in a single performance.

“Sweden's Gunhild Carling is truly a musical experience to behold. The talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist is an Internet sensation and a marvelous throwback to the days of the Classic Entertainers of the '20s and '30s.” —All About Jazz

Loudoun Symphonic Winds is a community-based concert band that is one of the major ensembles under Loudoun Community Band, Inc. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, comprised of professional and dedicated amateur musicians. Visit Loudoun Symphonic Winds on Facebook and Instagram.

Ahmad Jamal Tribute Concert with Alfred Yun Trio

Ahmad Jamal Tribute Concert with Alfred Yun Trio

Alfred Yun and his trio will pay tribute to the great pianist and composer, Ahmad Jamal in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Expect to hear groovy, relaxing, and introspective jazz. This is a free event sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians and the Loudoun Jazz Society.

Alfred Yun, piano
David Jernigan, bass
Chris Barrick, drums

Ahmad Jamal (1930-2023) was recognized as an NEA Jazz Master and received the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award. He led one of the must influential jazz piano trios for over six decades. His music and arrangements greatly influenced Miles Davis and Bill Evans. Critic Stanley Crouch wrote, "Through the use of space and changes of rhythm and tempo, Jamal invented a group sound that had all the surprise and dynamic variation of an imaginatively ordered big band.” A.B. Spellman, of the National Endowment of the Arts, agreed: "Nobody except Thelonious Monk used space better, and nobody ever applied the artistic device of tension and release better."
